New Venture to Offer Design Training on CD-ROM for
Business Use - First
Product, DesignSense for Presentations, teaches users to think
like graphic designers
PORTLAND, MAINE (August 5, 1999) - Color Works, a Portland, Maine-based
digital imaging and presentation graphics company, announced the recent
formation of a new company, Proximity Learning, LLC. The company will
develop computer-based training products that help businesspeople with
no graphic design training learn the basic design concepts and skills
required to develop visually compelling business communications. The
company's first product will be DesignSense for Presentations,
a multimedia training program on CD-ROM that teaches the graphic design
fundamentals necessary for creating well-designed presentations on the
computer. The product is the first of its kind to be offered to the
business public.
Proximity Learning was founded by Color Works' President and CEO, Andrew
Graham, to meet a need he identified during 20 years of producing presentation
slides and overheads for business customers. "My clients would
come to me, frustrated by business presentations they knew didn't look
very good, and ask me to 'fix' them," he said. "I'd do what
I could to help, but I'm not a design instructor. I realized that they
needed more than just a quick-fix solution," said Graham. He looked
in the marketplace for available design training products to suggest
to his clients, but found nothing that spoke to the business layperson.
Graham then decided to create his own training products that would enable
businesspeople such as his clients to make good presentation design
choices on their own.
Proximity Learning plans to roll out its first product, DesignSense
for Presentations, on October 1, 1999. The design training program on
CD-ROM, which is presented in an engaging, easy-to-use multi-media format,
will teach presentation software users to think like graphic designers
and produce stand-out presentations on their computers with speed and
ease.
Proximity Learning has decided to initiate pre-release discounts for
large volume corporate purchases placed before midnight, September 30,
1999. Information regarding volume sales and discounts is currently
available through the company's toll-free number, 1-877-271-0336.
In preparation for the product's roll-out, the company is beta testing
DesignSense at a number of corporations, including UNUM, the world's
largest disability insurer, and Fairchild Semiconductor, a major chip
manufacturer.
Proximity Learning, LLC is a computer-based training product development
company located in Portland, Maine, with sales offices in Austin, Texas.
DesignSense for Presentations is one of a family of multimedia
training products that the company will introduce in order to help businesspeople
learn the design skills they need to communicate more effectively within
their companies and out in the marketplace.
